Fiji Airways to feed tourism boom through Western Sydney Airport

Fiji Airways will start flying to Australia’s newest airport, Western Sydney International (WSI), from next year as travel demand to Fiji continues to grow. The airline will become the sixth carrier to commit to services from WSI, operating three weekly flights to and from Nadi and linking Sydney’s Fijian and Pacific Islander communities. The plan arrives as Sydney Airport faces its own route expansion, including EgyptAir’s planned Cairo flights via Singapore from 2027. Fiji’s travel numbers rose sharply in July, reaching 105,791 visitors—the highest monthly figure on record. Fiji Airways’ route push follows Middle East disruptions late in February and higher fuel costs increasing demand for more predictable options like Bali and the Pacific Islands. Commercial flights at WSI are scheduled for October 25, with cargo already operating, while some airlines—including Virgin Australia—are still weighing whether to launch.
