Fire crews set to remain on Princes Street for 'quite a considerable time'
Fire crews set to remain on Princes Street for 'quite a considerable time' after a major blaze damaged the upper floors of a building on the city’s main thoroughfare. The update came about 12 hours after the fire broke out and, according to a fire chief, the flames were brought “well under control.” Deputy assistant chief officer Willie Pollard said crews would stay on site to dampen down hot spots and address residual burning risks, citing “significant damage” and the likelihood of ongoing disruption. The fire prompted the evacuation of 10 people from a property in Rose Street South Lane, and nearby residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed. Police Scotland is investigating the cause, though no confirmation has been provided. Princes Street and surrounding areas remain closed to pedestrians and vehicles, with Castle Street and Frederick Street also shut, while officials said there was no confirmed reopening time.
