Former US Marine Robert Gilman released from detention in Russia - Mid-Utah Radio

Robert Gilman, a U.S. citizen and former Marine, was freed from detention in Russia on humanitarian grounds, a State Department spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. The spokesperson said Gilman joins more than 100 Americans released by the United States during President Trump’s second term and that Washington will continue working to bring home all Americans unjustly detained in Russia, including wrongful detainee Stephen Hubbard. His release reportedly came amid severe health concerns. The family advocacy organization said Gilman is en route to a U.S. military hospital in Texas for medical and psychological assessment and treatment. Gilman, 32, has been detained since 2022 and was sentenced to four and a half years after being accused of fighting with a Russian police officer at a train station, accusations his family denies as politically motivated. The State Department said it was not part of a prisoner exchange. Trump said Russia asked for no one in return and posted that Gilman will land at Andrews Air Force Base this evening, where representatives will welcome him. His sister said they will ensure he gets needed support.
