French Navy seizes Russia-linked oil tanker in high seas, Macron says

France's navy boarded the sanction-bound oil tanker Tagor in the Atlantic, more than 400 nautical miles west of Brittany, with support from partners including the United Kingdom, President Emmanuel Macron announced on X. The vessel, coming from Murmansk, Russia, was found to be flying a questionable flag, and after documents were inspected, authorities diverted the ship in line with international law. There was no immediate reaction from Moscow. France and Britain have pledged to disrupt ships tied to Russia's sanctioned shadow fleet, and in January France, aided by UK intelligence, intercepted another tanker, the Grinch, suspected of false-flag operations. UK authorities have since been granted powers to board such ships.
