General Staff: Russia has lost 1,274,990 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022 reports updated casualty and equipment-loss figures cited by the Ukrainian General Staff on 7 July. The report says Russia has lost around 1,412,250 troops since the start of the full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022, including 1,200 casualties reported over the previous day. It also lists large-scale Russian equipment losses, including 12,097 tanks, 24,899 armored combat vehicles, 117,085 vehicles and fuel tanks, 45,508 artillery systems, 1,917 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,478 air defense systems, and 436 aircraft. Additional figures include 353 helicopters, 394,846 drones, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines. The General Staff did not disclose Ukraine’s own losses, citing operational secrecy. The article says Western think tanks generally estimate Russian casualties exceed Ukraine’s, citing CSIS estimates of roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1, including a January 2026 CSIS report suggesting 500,000 to 600,000 Ukrainian casualties from Feb 2022 to Dec 2025.
