Giants cut 2 players symbolizing draft failures and organizational shift

The New York Giants cut Evan Neal and Jalin Hyatt as they trimmed their roster to the NFL’s 53-man limit on Sunday. Both releases reflect a difficult preseason and deepen questions about the team’s direction after hiring coach John Harbaugh. The cuts leave the Giants with only four players from general manager Joe Schoen’s first two drafts still on the roster: defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, linebacker Micah McFadden, cornerback Deonte Banks and center John Michael Schmitz. Neal, a 2022 seventh-overall pick out of Alabama, appeared in 27 games but never stabilized at right tackle. Hyatt, a former third-round pick, totaled 36 catches for 470 yards and no touchdowns over three seasons.
