Health officials warn of measles exposure at PHL Airport on July 4th

Philadelphia health officials warned of a measles exposure at PHL Airport on July 4 after a person with measles traveled through multiple terminals. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health said the exposure occurred at Terminal A, B and C between 7:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Officials noted that measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze, or talk. They said people who are not protected against measles can contract the virus up to two hours after an infected person leaves the same room or airspace. Symptoms can begin with cough, fever, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash. Anyone not protected who develops symptoms before July 25, 2026, should contact a doctor, while those born before 1957 or those who have already had measles are generally considered immune.
