Helping those in need feel at "home" with The Blessing Board | KD Sunday Spotlight

The Blessing Board is expanding a Pittsburgh-area nonprofit effort designed to help people in need “feel at home,” highlighted on KDKA’s Sunday Spotlight. Megan Shinn, who joined KDKA in late 2023 as a morning weekend anchor and weekday reporter, featured how the show Mayor of Kingstown contributed set items to the organization. The program has provided key medical support such as a transporter wheelchair; recipient Karen Kear said volunteers at the Shaler Township location helped after her mother-in-law broke an ankle. The nonprofit’s Director of Programs, Amy Hehn, said it has served more than 15,000 families since 2010 and grown to 150 volunteers, supporting individuals transitioning out of homelessness and incarceration, as well as those affected by domestic violence. The Blessing Board is adding medical equipment at its West Mifflin location, and Hehn said more than 9,000,000 pounds of waste have been diverted since 2014, with donations receiving new life.
