Infantino must go' - Portugal's Figo calls for change

Portugal great Luis Figo has called for FIFA president Gianni Infantino to resign, accusing him of what he described as the “lowest, most deceitful and cravenly self-interested behaviour” Figo has ever seen. Figo, who withdrew from the FIFA presidency race in 2015 and later backed Infantino, said Infantino’s conduct includes alleged interference in disciplinary decisions and violations of game rules, after Infantino’s abandoned plan to seek private investment through a company intended to run the World Cup. Infantino is scheduled to hold talks with FIFA executives on Wednesday following an emergency meeting in Rabat. Figo’s demand also comes amid European League criticism of FIFA’s proposal to expand the World Cup to 64 teams, citing governance and consultation concerns.
