Jersey oyster shipment in Granville an 'encouraging milestone'
Jersey reached an “encouraging milestone” after Jersey oysters were successfully exported using a new service at a facility in Granville, officials said. The island government stated that a shipment by Jersey Oyster Company through the Service d’Inspection Vétérinaire et Phytosanitaire (SIVEP) at the Port of Granville marked “an important step forward” for Jersey’s aquaculture sector. Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Senator Mary Le Hegarat said the island would keep working with French counterparts to expand the species it can accept, calling it a way to reduce some Brexit-related costs and challenges. The Normandy Trader shipment transited Granville on 21 October with veterinary checks completed smoothly and officials credited years of work by ministers, officers and French partners.
