Jonathan Davenport Solves Mystery Mechanical Issue After 1,000-Mile Test
Jonathan Davenport solved a mechanical mystery after a 1,000-mile test trip that centered on his Double L Motorsports car. The 42-year-old from Blairsville, Georgia went from Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota to Mansfield Speedway in Ohio, planning seven laps on Friday in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Rain washed out the program after Davenport was leading the third heat race when it was stopped on lap four. Although the event ended early, Davenport returned to believe the team had fixed the issue, based on early hot laps. He then decided to skip Saturday’s Lucas Oil race at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, heading home a day early. The mechanical problem was reportedly uncovered at Donny Schatz’s West Fargo, North Dakota shop after the World of Outlaws cancelled the Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Raceway. Earlier in the swing, a wall impact on June 22 at Ogilvie, Minnesota preceded finishes including 11th, sixth, ninth, and fifth.
