Fernandez was piloting a 32-foot boat overnight when it hit a rock jetty at high speed and the U.S. Coast Guard found it overturned near South Pointe Park around 3 a.m. ET. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission final report (released March 2017) concluded he was violating multiple boating laws, including Boating Under the Influence Manslaughter and reckless operation. The probe also cited a 65.7 mph impact.
