Lake Pepin search continues for three missing boaters
Search and rescue efforts continue on Lake Pepin after a pontoon boat overturned Saturday night, leaving three people missing. The Pepin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about 10:45 p.m. reporting people screaming for help in waters on Lake Pepin, which lies along the Mississippi River between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Officers found an overturned pontoon boat just offshore from the YMCA Camp on Deer Island in Pepin County, Wisconsin. Three survivors were rescued from the overturned vessel and told responders that three additional occupants had been on board but could not be located. Agencies from both Wisconsin and Minnesota joined the response, using rescue boats, drones, helicopters, and other specialized resources. As of Sunday morning, the search remained active. Authorities said the YMCA camp was not connected to the incident and have not requested public assistance.
