A 14-year-old boy, “Alex,” was swept about 2.5 miles offshore on Lake Superior while paddleboarding near Agate Beach, according to Grand Marais Boat Tours. The incident occurred Saturday, Sept. 12, near Agate Beach in Alger County at the north end of M-77, just north of downtown Grand Marais. The company said Capt. Tim Feasby was alerted when Grand Marais EMS contacted him for help on the water. With 3- to 4-foot waves, Feasby spotted Alex’s black cap. The U.S. Coast Guard was also contacted. In a follow-up post Sunday, the tour company said Alex and his parents met Capt. Tim to personally thank him.
