Landlords Offered More Than Double Council Rents To House Channel Migrants
xCruzo Brief
A Daily Mail investigation says British landlords are being offered more than double what local councils pay to house Channel migrant arrivals. The higher rates come through Clearsprings Ready Homes, a Home Office contractor operating under multi-billion-pound taxpayer-funded agreements. One south London example cited: a landlord offered £4,500 a month for a three-bedroom flat, compared with £1,790 paid by Southwark Council—an extra £32,520 per year, plus bills, council tax and maintenance covered for three years. The outlet reports Clearsprings targets properties already used for council tenants, students and vulnerable people, housing about 30,000 asylum seekers and posting £62.6 million profit on £1.4 billion turnover to January 2025.
