Least 40 rescued, 2 dead as boat capsizes after machete fight near Puerto Rico

At least 40 people were rescued after a boat capsized following a machete fight near Mona Island, west of Puerto Rico, with two people confirmed dead, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Survivors said about 60 people had been aboard when the altercation forced passengers into open water late Sunday. The makeshift vessel flipped several miles from the uninhabited island, and some passengers were severely injured, the Coast Guard said. Rescue began after survivors spent more than 12 hours in the sea; a person on a passing boat spotted them around noon Monday and helped recover four immediately. Searches continued Monday evening.
