Fremantle’s grand final hopes are already driving a surge in local accommodation, with officials and booking managers warning that options within the city limits are extremely tight for the September 25–27 weekend, even before the club’s do-or-die qualifying final against Geelong on Friday night. Ahead of that match, there were reportedly only six properties publicly available for a family of four. Local hotels, pubs, and even the area prison have reported increased bookings, as authorities plan for an estimated extra 40,000 people across Fremantle if the Dockers reach the decider. The council approved a $230,000 budget amendment to manage the influx and expand live-screen viewing along the “cappuccino strip.”
