Marine Corps looks to equip armored vehicles with 360-degree cameras
The Marine Corps is pursuing 360-degree camera systems for the LAV-25 and other armored vehicles to provide full situational awareness with hatches closed, including during swimming operations and low-visibility coastal conditions. The service seeks fully integrated, turnkey systems that merge four to ten cameras into a single video stream and offer infrared or thermal imaging, zoom, high-resolution 1080p or 4K video, and accurate color for maneuvering and identification. The RFI from PM LAV emphasizes maritime and littoral effectiveness, including underwater operation, ship-to-shore maneuvering, and real-time contact tracking while submerged. Contractors must show prior maritime testing and keep costs under $160,000 per vehicle. Deadline is June 18.
The RFI highlights the need for a survivability upgrade that enhances LAV platforms and supports amphibious vehicles like the Amphibious Combat Vehicle and ARV, ensuring crews can operate with hatches closed even in water and buoyant conditions.
