Marine insurer arrives in New York
The Swedish Club has opened its first permanent U.S. office in New York, aiming to provide claims and loss prevention support to members and brokers across the Americas alongside its marine insurance products. The office, at 140 Broadway in Manhattan’s Financial District, was announced with an opening event on October 13 at Lightbox. It is led by Ian Duthie, regional executive director for the Americas, who joined from Britannia P&I Club, where he had been commercial director for the Americas. The Club said the move reflects a changing shipowner risk environment shaped by geopolitical volatility, shifting trading patterns and inflation pressure, including in insurance and claims. It also cited war-risk premiums for tankers in the Gulf of 6% to 10% of hull value, compared with about 0.25% before the war.
