Mariners' Lazaro Montes Makes History in MLB Debut

Lázaro Montes debuted in MLB on Tuesday night for the Seattle Mariners wearing jersey number 99 and hit a home run in his first major league at-bat from Fenway Park. The left-handed slugger also recorded an RBI hit earlier, giving him a historic start. Seattle says he became the seventh player in franchise history to homer in an MLB debut, joining Jamie Nelson (1983), Alvin Davis (1984), Greg Dobbs (2004), Kenji Johjima (2006), Kyle Lewis (2019), and now Montes. MLB stats analyst Sarah Langs also noted Montes was Seattle’s first player with multiple hits and RBIs in a debut since 2001. Fangraphs ranked Montes the No. 81 prospect before the call-up.
