Maryland Reports Six More Fatal Crashes, Bringing July Death Toll To 37

Maryland recorded six additional fatal crashes between July 27 and Aug. 2, raising the state’s July death toll to 37, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police. As of Aug. 3, 2026, 233 people have died on Maryland roadways this year, compared with 279 at the same point last year. The agencies urged drivers to “Slow the Fast Down” as part of summer travel-season reminders. They highlighted steps such as keeping vehicles in good working order, prioritizing safety during tire changes, checking blind spots, obeying speed limits and slowing in work zones, and moving over for vehicles with flashing lights.
