Michigan fishing spots where you can catch your limit this week highlights changing conditions across the state as anglers target Chinook salmon and lake trout. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ weekly report says warm weather and high winds affected fish behavior. In northwest Michigan, salmon fishing remained productive from Whitehall north to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, where many anglers caught limits of Chinook; cooler temperatures pushed fish into shallower water. Near North Manitou Island, fair catches were reported in 250 to 325 feet, with best rates around 300 feet, using green and blue spoons and meat rigs. Lake trout fishing was described as outstanding at Cheboygan, with anglers reaching limits on all major reefs using spoons. In the northeast, Rockport anglers found very good steelhead in 100 to 200 feet, with bright-colored spoons fished in the top 30 feet. Walleye results were mixed, with limits of 15-to-20-inch fish at Caseville but generally slow Lake Erie action, while deeper water near Sebewaing, Quanicassee and Fish Point held more consistent catches. The report also cites strong bass fishing, including “phenomenal” smallmouth on the Muskegon River and productive methods in several river systems.
