Mike Frisch's quick tip: Moving baits for autumn bass

Fishing the Midwest host Mike Frisch says moving baits are a prime choice for bass in autumn, even though they’re also strong early in the season. Spinnerbaits, swim jigs and crankbaits work well in shallow areas in spring, when vegetation hasn’t grown thick. In summer, bass often bury in weed cover and become harder to reach; once the “greenery” dies back in fall, those moving lures take over again and can quickly cover flats that once held fish amid tall weeds. Frisch targets the same mid-depth flats that produced largemouth in July and August, now using remnant weed pockets. He highlights an underused 6-inch oversized Final Copy plastic swimbait that he reels over leftover weeds, reporting strong results in late September and October.
