Military says it destroyed 2 small Iranian boats trying to steal a drone

The U.S. military says it fired on two small Iranian boats this week in waters off Iran after they tried to take possession of a U.S. unmanned surface drone ship. Capt. Tim Hawkins of U.S. Central Command said the boats failed to secure the vessel, and that CENTCOM responded “forcefully.” Iranian state media reported Monday that fishing boats were attacked in Hormozgan province, with several fishermen missing, citing a provincial official. The incident comes amid the long-running confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz, where the U.S. has recently weakened Iran’s grip. The drone was a Saildrone, about 25 feet long. CENTCOM said all its surface drones remain accounted for.
