The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued additional recalls in May and June for “pull string teething toys” made for infants, described as orb or dome-shaped products with silicone strings that run through holes. The brands recalled were GOPO on June 18 and LiKee on June 11, while the agency also warned about a similar toy sold under the brand Etetoo that is not currently under recall. The CPSC said the recalls were triggered because the silicone strings are smaller and longer than permitted. It warns the strings can reach the back of a child’s throat, become lodged, and pose a risk of respiratory distress and fatal choking. The agency says refunds may be available and instructs caregivers to cut off the string “tentacles,” mark the toy “DESTROYED,” and not sell or give it away. The CPSC reported at least 72 related injuries for this toy style.
