Mortal remains of 15 Indian nationals who died in Vietnam boat tragedy arrive in Ho Chi Minh City, repatriation being arranged
The remains of 15 Indian nationals who died after a tourist speedboat capsized off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc island arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, as the Embassy of India in Vietnam said on July 12. The embassy stated that, after completing necessary formalities at Ho Chi Minh City, the mortal remains will be transported to India at the earliest, with Embassy and Consulate teams coordinating with Vietnamese authorities. It also said hopes continue for the speedy recovery of one survivor being treated at Phu Quoc Hospital. The report added that 15 survivors were discharged and travelling back to India, while one patient in critical care had been discharged and is en route, and another remains under treatment in Phu Quoc. The tourist speedboat AG 26751, operated by Ocean Pearl Island Company, carried 32 Indian tourists and four crew members. Vietnam’s authorities detained a 57-year-old local man for alleged legal violations related to the incident, and aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu intervened to facilitate repatriation. Plans and flight schedules are to be communicated later.
