Natural Gas Production Hits Record High as Permian Basin Output Surges - [your]NEWS
U.S. natural gas production hit an all-time high in July, driven largely by output growth in the Permian Basin across Texas and New Mexico, according to federal data. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said gross withdrawals—gas extracted at the wellhead before processing—reached a record 137 billion cubic feet per day. The monthly record followed five record-setting months in 2025 and marked the first new gross-withdrawal high of 2026. Growth was led by Texas and New Mexico, where gross withdrawals rose by a combined 1.7 billion cubic feet per day from June, up 3.2%. Additional increases came in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and North Dakota. The EIA links much of the rise to new wells in the Permian, where higher gas-to-oil ratios are lifting production, and to expanding pipeline capacity feeding Gulf Coast export terminals.
