Plans lodged for 32,000-hen egg production unit in Holderness

Plans have been submitted for a large egg production facility in Holderness, East Yorkshire, that would house up to 32,000 hens. Cattle Holderness, part of Ottringham-based Buckle Farms, aims to build on land north-west of Buzzards Nest, Burton Pidsea, and would include an egg production building, an egg packing and storage building, four feed bins, and a manure elevator. East Riding of Yorkshire Council will decide later. Birds would be kept on site for 70 weeks per cycle, with replacements after each cycle and cleaning between flocks. The applicant notes existing operational experience in livestock and other area sites.
