One of the craziest feelings': 14-year-old angler reels in rare cubera snapper off Nantucket beach
xCruzo Brief
A 14-year-old angler, Stone Fornes, reeled in what is believed to be the first cubera snapper ever caught off Nantucket. Fishing Friday on the island’s south shore, the homeschooled teen noticed his rod tip bounce while casting for sharks. After about 10 minutes, he brought the large, almond-shaped fish out of the surf and recognized it as a cubera snapper—one he has wanted to catch since age 6. He estimated the fish at around 40 pounds. Fornes photographed it, recorded GoPro footage, and released it quickly. An aquarium curator said warm summer waters can push typically southern species north.
