Palmer and Rice among 5 players ruled out of England Nations League matches

Cole Palmer is among five England players forced to withdraw from the squad because of injuries, a move that rules out a chance to impress coach Thomas Tuchel again after a World Cup snub. The England team said Monday that Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento and Kobbie Mainoo were also ruled out of upcoming Nations League games against world champion Spain, Croatia, and the Czech Republic (twice). Only two replacements were named: Everton midfielder James Garner and Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White. Tuchel had said Palmer would have “a point to prove” following his recall. Palmer played the full match in Chelsea’s last outing, a 3-0 loss at Brentford on Friday.
