Parade of Tall Ships Is Heading to New York. Here's What to Know.
The Parade of Tall Ships is heading to New York, with Sail4th 250 set to fill the Hudson River with tall ships from at least 20 nations this Fourth of July. The event runs beyond the holiday, with ships displayed from July 3 to July 8, and includes the seventh full-scale naval review in the United States and the fourth in New York Harbor ahead of the parade. Organizers expect roughly 20,000 sailors onboard and large crowds along the waterfront on July 4. After the maritime spectacle ends at night, Macy’s 50th anniversary fireworks show takes over. Capt. Jonathan Andrechik of U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York called it “by far the most complex planned event” he has ever coordinated. More than 40 ships and notable vessels such as Italy’s Amerigo Vespucci and Chile’s Esmeralda are expected, while Indonesia’s K.R.I. Bima Suci reportedly withdrew due to the war in Iran.
