Summer Davos highlights 'China Opportunity 2.0' as new growth engine
Summer Davos in Dalian highlighted a new framework for China’s growth strategy, emphasizing “China Opportunity 2.0” as a potential engine for global development. In speeches and discussions with about 150 business representatives from more than 30 countries and regions, Chinese Premier Li Qiang urged international partners to view China’s economy through that lens. The report says the concept reflects a structural shift from growth driven mainly by manufacturing scale toward innovation-led expansion, future industries, industrial ecosystems and technological diffusion under the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). It argues China’s value increasingly comes from transforming innovation into productivity quickly and at scale, rather than primarily low-cost labor. The article cites China’s economy exceeding 140 trillion yuan ($20.4 trillion) and growing 5% in the first quarter of 2026 despite geopolitical tensions and volatile energy markets.
