Philly women make 89 cents for every dollar men make, new report finds

A new Forum of Executive Women report finds Philadelphia women still earn less than men, despite progress since 2015. The average gap stands at 89 cents on the dollar, with even wider disparities for women of color, who earn 94 cents for white women, 64 cents for Black women, and 57 cents for Hispanic and Latina women in the city. The study, titled The Philadelphia Paradox and drawing on Economy League data, shows women are concentrated in lower-earning fields like healthcare (76%) and education (66%), with median wages below $60,000 in both sectors. Nationally, the pay gap averages 81 cents, costing U.S. women about $1.7 trillion annually in wages and roughly $500,000 per person over a career.
