Pocket Fire north of Sedona grows to 26K acres with 48% containment
The Pocket Fire north of Sedona expanded to 26,442 acres and was 48% contained as of July 6, according to fire officials. Since July 6, containment increased by 10% and the fire grew by 845 acres, with parts of Yavapai County containing Seven Canyons and Enchantment still in “set” status, a pre-evacuation alert. The wildfire began on June 19 about 7 miles outside Sedona and advanced near Oak Creek Canyon. Over the weekend, crews worked to strengthen and monitor fire lines in the northwest portion of the blaze. On July 6, federal efforts continued near West Fork Canyon in the Coconino National Forest, including actions to prevent spread down Bear Sign Canyon and up Secret Mountain. About 1,238 personnel were assigned, parts of State Route 89A remained closed, and evacuation status and routes were being managed through county offices. Temperatures were forecast in the low 80s to low 100s with humidity from 10% to 18%.
