Police looking for missing Monroe kayaker in Wayne County

Authorities are searching for a missing kayaker from Monroe who went missing while kayaking on Friday, July 3, in the area between the Detroit River Light and the Lake Erie Metropark Marina. The Grosse Ile Police Department asked the public for assistance in a Facebook post, saying severe weather moved into the area at about 6:30 p.m. during the incident. The only available description at the time indicated the person was wearing swim trunks and was not wearing a life jacket. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were actively searching, according to the post. By around 1 p.m. on July 4, Sheriff Troy Goodnough said the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office boat had returned and finished searching. Grosse Ile Police and Wayne County Sheriff’s offices had no updates at 1:30 p.m. July 4, and officials requested any relevant observations during the timeframe.
