Pop Singer Olivia Rodrigo Erupts on Trump Administration for 'Picking Fights With Pop Stars'

Grammy-winning pop star Olivia Rodrigo criticized the Trump administration for what she called “picking fights with pop stars,” arguing a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) video used her song “All-American Bitch” to accompany scenes of deportation raids. Speaking to NPR after being asked about the use of the track, Rodrigo said she views it as a “distraction” tactic, adding that the song was written about feeling trapped in a misogynistic box and that putting it to “grotesque, cruel scenes of ICE raids” was “awful.” She previously lashed out at the Department of Homeland Security when the ICE video was released, but now frames the episode as an attempt to divert public attention from other actions. The Department of Homeland Security told Billboard it is grateful to federal law enforcement officers and suggested Rodrigo should not “belittle their sacrifice.” Rodrigo is among several artists who have complained about the administration using their music in enforcement-related content.
