Poultry farm revamp could see new 38,000-chicken egg production unit built

Sporle Farms wants to rebuild its Great Palgrave Farm poultry site near Dereham by replacing an ageing turkey breeder facility with a new fertile egg production unit designed for modern standards. The plan would demolish buildings that currently house 2,650 hens and 280 stags. In their place, a broiler breeder unit would be built with three linked poultry houses and associated infrastructure, holding 38,100 birds—more than 14 times the previous capacity. The operation would run on a 48-week production cycle, with a four-week flock change-over period. Breckland Council will decide later under reference PL/2026/0876/FMAJ.
