Record-Breaking Marlin Caught by Fishermen Off San Diego Coast

A blue marlin weighing 648 pounds was landed Monday by a San Diego sportfishing crew off the coast, about 40 miles offshore, aboard a 65-foot boat led by Captain Alec Stockfelt. The fish, caught by anglers at Fishermen’s Landing, is described as the largest on the scale at the site, beating the captain’s estimate of a prior mark of about 598 pounds. Nearly the entire crew was needed to haul it aboard due to its size. The news follows days after two fishermen brought in a 500-pound bluefin tuna, but that tuna wasn’t eligible for sport-fishing records because it was caught commercially.
