Report finds many security deficiencies at university where Charlie Kirk was killed

A new after-action report from Utah Valley University says security planning for Charlie Kirk’s Sept. 10, 2025 talk on the Orem campus contained major gaps. The external independent review found that Kirk’s Turning Point USA team pushed for an outdoor venue despite safety concerns, while the university failed to properly assess risks such as the possibility of a rooftop shooter. According to the report, the university did not conduct a formal security assessment, did not create a written event action plan, and deferred key decisions to Turning Point USA. It also cited missing line-of-sight documentation, briefings, and coordination with Kirk’s private security and outside law enforcement.
