Report finds many security deficiencies at Utah university where Charlie Kirk was killed

A new after-action report released by Utah Valley University says security failures surrounded the fatal Sept. 10, 2025 talk in Orem where Charlie Kirk was killed. The external, independent review found that Turning Point USA pressed for Kirk to speak outdoors despite concerns, and that the university did not properly assess key risks, including the possibility of a rooftop shooter. Investigators said the university conducted no formal security assessment, did not create a written event action plan, and deferred critical decisions to Turning Point USA. Authorities said Kirk, 31, was shot by a sniper more than 400 feet (122 meters) away. A judge ordered the case toward trial after Tyler Robinson pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder.
