Robert Bush: Reporting on the Legacy funeral director's case

The case involving undertaker Robert Bush, once owner of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, has ended after a sentencing that saw him admit 67 offences. Humberside Police raised concerns in March 2024, following whistleblower reports. Bush admitted crimes including fraudulent trading, denying 30 people a proper burial, and giving some bereaved relatives the ashes of strangers. Police identified 300 victims, including families who paid for funeral plans and others left questioning whether the remains were truly their loved ones, as well as the deceased he was meant to bury or cremate with dignity. Sentencing at Hull Crown Court lasted five days, with courtroom access tightly managed.
