This unusual Maine-made boat doubles as a floating picnic table

A Maine couple turned a failing dock into a moving picnic table boat. Lon Cameron and Tyler Kidder needed to replace a deteriorating year-round dock at their home in Winthrop, built on the site of an old camp. While dismantling it, Cameron noticed the floating dock boxes were still in good condition and decided to build a picnic table on the floats. A family member provided a trolling motor, and a prototype became real in 2019. They launched Maine Float in 2021, and Cameron’s patent was approved in fall 2023. They’ve sold 45 boats across Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and one in Canada.
