RT-Engels: South Africa ramps up migrant deportations
South Africa ramps up migrant deportations as the provincial Department of Home Affairs reports high volumes of processing near the Zimbabwe border. Authorities said between 47,000 and 50,000 migrants have been processed for deportation and voluntary repatriation at a temporary facility near the Musina border area in Limpopo. Hundreds of foreign nationals continue to arrive at the Musina site while removals and assisted returns are carried out through the Beitbridge Port of Entry. The increase follows the closure of the Durban Repatriation Centre amid calls from anti-migrant organizations for undocumented residents to leave. Limpopo Home Affairs manager Albert Matsaung said processing was beginning to slow, with 1,675 people handled on one day, while more continued arriving across South Africa’s nine provinces. On Thursday morning, 1,500 to 2,000 migrants were awaiting processing.
