SAAM enhances Mexican port towage with newbuild harbour tug
SAAM Towage has strengthened its harbour tug fleet for Mexico with the delivery of SAAM Ximbal, a newbuild tug supporting the growing arrival of ultra-large container ships at major terminals. Built by Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards, the 24.4-m, 327-gt harbour tug follows Sanmar’s Bogacay series and the RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design from Robert Allan Ltd. Based on AIS data, SAAM Ximbal left Turkey on Oct. 26, transited Spain, crossed the Atlantic, went through the Panama Canal, and headed to the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It has a 12-m beam, 4.5-m molded depth, 5.5-m draught, a FiFi1 firefighting system, twin Cat 3516E engines, and two stern azimuth thrusters for over 80 tonnes of bollard pull and 13 knots free-running speed.
