Search continues for boat and crew 'in distress' off Plymouth

Search and rescue efforts continued in the English Channel off Plymouth after a vessel was reported “in distress,” with two crew members still missing, the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency said. A coastguard rescue helicopter, a fixed-wing aircraft, and two RNLI lifeboats began searching an area south-west of Eddystone Lighthouse shortly after 18:00 BST on Saturday. By early Sunday, HM Coastguard in Falmouth confirmed that three of the five people aboard had been accounted for. No further details were provided about the ship or the nature of the emergency. Civilian vessels were also assisting in what the coastguard called an “intensive search.”
