Search for six missing tourists on sunken charter boat called off
The search for six missing tourists after a sunken charter boat near Vancouver has been called off, with authorities saying they are presumed drowned. The boat sank Sunday about 10 miles off the coast in the Strait of Georgia. Emergency services received reports of people in the water without life jackets at 11:45 a.m. local time. A sailboat couple, Brian Angus and Dorothy Stauffer, rescued three after receiving the first mayday call, and search crews later rescued a fourth. Officials said the six others—four men and two women—were not found and the police ended the search, shifting to recovery. Underwater teams began scanning with sonar and may use a drone due to water depth. Identities are being confirmed, and investigators are still looking into why no mayday call came from the vessel.
