Selfless Utah dad killed by lightning strike trying to help stranded boaters off Florida coast

Steve Matheson, a 47-year-old father from Utah, was killed by a lightning strike Saturday night while helping stranded boaters off Florida’s coast, his family said. Matheson and a friend were jet skiing near Fort de Soto just before 6:35 p.m. when they spotted a disabled boat. With a storm moving in, they headed toward shore, but he stopped to assist after realizing the group was in trouble.
