Seth Meyers on Trump and Vance's tactics: 'No one's buying your fake folksy bullshit'
Seth Meyers used Late Night to mock Donald Trump and JD Vance’s efforts to reach working-class voters, saying Republicans have been “cosplaying as regular, everyday folks.” He referenced clips in which Trump works at McDonald’s and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claims to be a soybean farmer, and he criticized right-wing reaction to Barack Obama’s joke comparing the Trump White House to Saddam Hussein decorating a Cheesecake Factory. Meyers also targeted Vance after he said he can’t pronounce names of Middle East countries during a rally, calling it “fake folksy bullshit,” while noting that Trump’s inability would make him more believable, were he the one to say it. Meyers further cited attacks by the right on Texas Democrat James Talarico and Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, arguing poll numbers suggest the tactics are backfiring. On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel mocked Trump after a reporter asked if he was feeling well following a schedule change.
