Slippery suspect escapes into ocean while fleeing police during wild LA chase
A wanted suspect escaped into the ocean while fleeing police during a high-speed chase in Los Angeles, but was later taken into custody after more than an hour in the water, officials said. The incident began at about 7:20 a.m. when LAPD officers attempted to arrest the man, wanted on a felony warrant, near Pacific Coast Highway and Marina Drive in Pacific Palisades. After running on foot toward Will Rogers State Beach, the suspect allegedly jumped fully clothed into the ocean and swam hundreds of yards offshore. Video showed him treading water as two boats and two responders on paddleboards approached, and a third rescuer swam to help as he neared the board for transport to a sheriff’s vessel. He was arrested around 9:30 a.m. without further struggle. No injuries were reported; an investigation remains ongoing.
