Sports World in Focus: Zaheer joins Jaffna, India arrive & FIFA shake-up

Zaheer Khan is joining Jaffna Kings as co-owner after Anchor Sports AB—an ownership group based in Stockholm—acquired the Lanka Premier League franchise. The team, previously known as Jaffna Kings, has been rebranded as “Anchor Jaffna Kings,” starting a new chapter under the group’s expanded cricket portfolio. Anchor Sports already owns the Antwerp Anchors in the European T20 Premier League and the Vancouver Anchors men’s and women’s teams in Canada’s Super 60 League. Jaffna are currently in the top two of the LPL points table. Meanwhile, India’s Test squad landed in Sri Lanka on April 4 via SriLankan Airlines flight UL 1144, ahead of a two-match series in the 2025–2027 World Test Championship.
